This Week at Sinai

Religious School: Classes resume on Tuesday, December 2.
 
Silicon Valley Beit Midrash: Thursday, December 4, starting at 9 am in the Mirkin Chapel. Join Rabbi Berkenwald and Rabbi Simcha Green of Ahabat Torah for in-depth study of Jewish thoughts, beliefs, and practices. No fee; drop-ins are welcome; no experience necessary.  9 - 10:15 am: Pirkei Avot, 10:30 am -12 pm: Mishnah Study.
 
Torah for Tots: Saturday December 6 from 10:30- 11:30 am in the Social Hall. For kids ages 0-5. Join Families for fun, interactive, educational, parent-led services for kids. Family Education Program: Sunday, December 14, starting at 10:30 am. Looking for ways to enhance your child's Jewish education? Learn together as a family! Led by Family Education Director Lynn Osband, each month we'll learn about different Jewish values, customs, and traditions, what they mean, and how to make them fun and meaningful for your family. Sisterhood Bookclub: Sunday, December 14, at 7:30 pm.

Religious School/Nursery School Chanukah Project:
Tuesday, December 16, at 4:15 pm. Preschoolers and Religious School students will have a joint Chanukah celebration - art, singing, and making edible menorahs.

Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley - Embrace a Child for the Holidays: Congregation Sinai is partnering with Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley to fulfill the Chanukah holiday wishes of children who would otherwise go without gifts. We have displayed in the Sinai foyer a dreidel board full of wish cards that you can choose from. Each wish card is printed with a child's age, gender, and their wish for a holiday gift.  We encourage you to stop by and pick up a wish card anytime between now and December 10th.

JFSSV is making a wish list for those in times of need during the holidays. If you know of anyone in our community in need of assistance to make this Chanukah extra special during times of financial hardship, please contact Joelle Pluemer, Sinai's synagogue administrator, with  the name of the family for contact information. All names are held in strict confidentiality.
 
COMING TO CONGREGATION SINAI... THE FIRST IMUN PROGRAM ON THE WEST COAST, JANUARY 25- 29, 2009
Mini-Imun is an exciting three-day program for people who want to learn to read Torah or lead Shabbat davening. Participants join in an intensive program offering lectures, workshops, and practical exercises, which enhance their synagogue religious skills.  Imun participants can learn the basics of reading Torah and Haftarah or leading services. The program will be held at Congregation Sinai from Sunday evening, January 25 to Wednesday noon, January 29. A Tribute to Mumbai, An Evening of Jewish Solidarity: Wednesday, December 3, from 7:30 - 8:30 pm at Kehillah Jewish High School - 3900 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. Join Together with the Bay Area Jewish Community for an evening of tribute and memorial for the hundreds of terror victims in Mumbai, India.
 
One Community One Book: Thursday, December 4, from 7:30-9 pm at the Levy Family Campus, 14855 Oka Road in Los Gatos.  What if everyone in the Jewish community read the same book at the same time? It's a great way to bring people together to discuss the big issues. Following on the success of last year's "One Community One Book" program, this year's book is "The World To Come," by Dara Horn.  At the kick-off event, you can meet the author.  Congregation Sinai is a co-sponsor of One Community One Book

A New Jewish Girl Scout Troop is Forming for Grades 1-5: Monday, December 8 at 7:30pm. A Parent Information meeting will be held at the home of Beth Hawthorne. The troop will meet at Congregation Sinai in Willow Glen on Sunday afternoons twice a month. All girls from the community are invited to join. The troop will be part of the Girl Scouts of Northern California and the National Jewish Girl Scout Committee. Chanukah Palooza, a community Chanukah festival at the JCC: Sunday, December 14, 12-4 pm at Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos. FREE! Chanukah activities, storytelling, crafts, bounce houses, Judaica vendors, youth art show, congregation tables. Food will be available for purchase at the JCC's Blue Star Cafe. At 2:00 pm, enjoy a performance by the Papa Hugs band for children, and a movie for teens. At 3 pm, there will be Regesh Israeli dancing. Congregation Sinai is hosting its own table. The Influence of A Bedtime Story Ritual:Monday, December 15, from 10 am-11:30 am at APJCC Art Studio, 2nd floor, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos. Jewish Family Services and the PJ Library Program will talk about the positive, unexpected benefits of creating and sustaining a bedtime story ritual.
