Walking with God
Calling all skeptics, seekers, and questioners.
Find out what Judaism has to say about the One Who is Beyond All Words. This course is for you if...
...your image of God is an old guy with a white beard.
...your children are asking you questions that you cannot answer honestly.
...your Jewish education ended after seventh grade.
...you have questions about faith.
...you are an atheist.
How can God be as close as the human heart and yet also permeate all space and time?
Connecting
to God is a life-long journey for the seeking Jew and a pillar of
Jewish life and religion. Only open-minded and critical study can
energize a faith attained without blinders.
This class will
utilize essays written by some of the greatest thinkers in Conservative
Judaism today, traditional texts in translation, worksheets, as well as
open and frank discussions. By integrating traditional and academic
approaches, participants will celebratethe pluralism of Jewish
diversity throughout history.
Taught by Rabbi Josh Berkenwald.
First Tuesday of each month from 7:30 to 9 pm:

Introduction to Judaism
Interested
in learning more about Judaism? This interactive course explores basic
Jewish belief, history, and practice through lectures, readings and
discussions. All are welcome. Taught by Rabbi Josh Berkenwald of
Congregation Sinai and Rabbi Daniel Pressman of Congregation Beth
David.
Meets Tuesday nights 7:30 - 9:30 at Congregation Beth David, beginning October 6, 2009.
Read Hebrew America Level 1
It's
free and it's fun. Perfect for beginners. After only five
hour-and-a-half lessons, you'll be reading Hebrew. You'll be amazed at
how easy it is. Mike Cogan will teach basic Hebrew reading skills to
adults with little or no previous background in Hebrew. Free. Please
email or call the Sinai office to register by Friday, October 9.

Introduction to Biblical Hebrew
and Chumash with Rashi Text
The
first half of this course will introduce students to the basic lexicon
and grammatical structures of biblical Hebrew, with an emphasis on the
development of a set of useful translation strategies. In the second
half of this class, students will be introduced to the insights of the
Torah's most famous medieval commentator, Rashi, Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki
(1040-1105) Fee: $300 for members of Sinai or APJCC / $350 for
non-members. Register at the JCC or online at ww.svjcc.org.
Classes are held at Congregation Sinai: Mondays, October 26 - April 26 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
Rappin with the Rabbi
A
monthly gathering on Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 10:30 am in the
Social Hall. Join Rabbi Berkenwald for casual and lively discussions
on relevant Jewish topics including: biomedical ethics, Judaism and
food, the meaning of Chanukah, and much more. All are welcome. Coffee
will be served.
From 10 -10:30 am on Sundays, October 25, November 15, December 13, January 24, February 21, March 14, and April 11.

Ongoing
