News announcement from Rabbi Berkenwald on December 27, 2013:
It is with great pride and joy that I share the exciting news of the election of our own Aaron Pluemer as International President of United Synagogue Youth (USY), the youth group of the Conservative movement. This victory is a tremendous and well-deserved accomplishment for which Aaron has worked tirelessly and with passion.
This week, approximately 800 Jewish teen-agers from around North America spent the week in New Orleans to attend USY’s annual International Convention. Aaron led a delegation of 30 USY’ers from the New Frontier region (Northern California and Reno), including 4 from Congregation Sinai. Part of the convention included the election of the new International Board to a one year term. Aaron was selected by peers from around North America to lead USY for the coming year.
Aaron is only the second International President of USY to hail from New Frontier. Aaron is currently the Regional President of New Frontier. He has also served as the Religion-Education Vice President of the region, President of the Sinai chapter of USY, as well as numerous other leadership positions.
Aaron is a leader in our synagogue as well, sitting on the Sinai Board of Directors and leading Shabbat services as a prayer leader, Torah and Haftarah chanter, and gabbai.
Mazel Tov to Aaron, his family, our synagogue, and all of USY!

Congregation Sinai won the Energy Oscar in the category of "Green Building" from California Interfaith Power and Light. CIPL recognized the community's commitment to earth stewardship through its adoption of solar panels, use of energy efficient lighting, and installation of a permeable parking lot surface that diverts rainwater from the sewer system and back into local aquifers. Mazel Tov!
